Discount Calculator

Find the sale price and savings from an original price and discount percentage.

A "30% off" sign is easy to see but harder to do quickly in your head, especially with an odd price. Enter the original price and the discount percentage to get the sale price and exact savings instantly.

Stacking multiple discounts

Discounts don't add together the way people assume — 20% off plus an extra 10% off isn't 30% off. Each discount applies to the already-reduced price, so two 20%/10% discounts compound to a 28% total reduction, not 30%. Apply this calculator twice, once per discount, to see the real combined effect.

Discount percentage vs. markup percentage

A common point of confusion: if an item is discounted 25% from $100 to $75, going back up from $75 to $100 isn't a 25% increase — it's a 33% increase. Percentage change isn't symmetric because the base amount changes direction. Our Percentage Increase/Decrease Calculator handles this specifically.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include sales tax?

No — this calculates the discount only. Sales tax is typically applied to the discounted price at checkout, not the original price, so calculate your discount first, then run that result through our Sales Tax Calculator.

How do I find the original price from a sale price and discount?

Divide the sale price by (1 − discount as a decimal). For example, a $75 item at 25% off means $75 ÷ 0.75 = $100 original price.
